DuraFlex 316Ti stainless liners for wood-burning fireplaces use a different termination and crown interface than DuraFlex HT systems rated for gas appliances, and the DuraFlex Pro series carries its own collar dimensions that won’t seat properly on standard pourable crowns.

To identify yours, look for the stamped model tag on the termination cap itself, usually visible from the roof. If the tag’s weathered off, measure the flue diameter at the top course of brick and note whether your liner is rigid or flexible. The flexible 316Ti systems common in Tacoma’s Proctor District and North End craftsman homes typically run 6″ or 8″ diameter with a stainless crown collar that seals against a poured refractory crown. • Water dripping onto the firebox floor during rain. The crown’s top surface has cracked or the seal between the crown and the flue liner has failed, letting water track down the flue. Here’s what you can safely check from the ground: binoculars will confirm rust streaks, missing chunks of crown, or a tilted termination cap. What you cannot safely assess is the condition of the DuraFlex collar seal or the structural integrity of the crown under load. Crown work requires ladder or scaffold access to a working surface, and the pourable refractory materials used for DuraFlex-compatible crowns cure under specific temperature and moisture conditions that Tacoma’s fall weather rarely cooperates with.
