Famco manufactures several cap lines, and the right match depends on what’s on your chimney now. If the label’s rusted off, measure the flue tile opening (not the crown) - single-flue caps are sized to the flue, multi-flue to the crown footprint. The critical gotcha: Famco single-flue caps for 8″×8″ flues won’t seat on 8″×12″ tile even if the catalog numbers look close. We check this with a tape measure on every job, because ordering the “almost right” cap means a second trip and more weather exposure for your flue.

• Rust stains running down the brick or siding. Famco galvanized caps begin losing their zinc coating after 5-7 years in Tacoma’s marine air. Once rust starts, the metal thins quickly and the cap loses structural integrity.
• Mesh screen detached or sagging. The spark arrestor mesh is welded to the cap frame at the factory. Salt air accelerates corrosion at these weld points, and a detached screen can’t keep embers or animals out.
