Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
The Emberly Chimney Cleaners Tacoma Guarantee
Every chimney we touch in Tacoma comes with our word that it’ll be done right, or we’ll make it right. That’s not a slogan we printed on a magnet. It’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the operating system we’ve run on since 2009, and it means a written price before any work starts, a documented photo record when we’re finished, and a full year to call us back if something isn’t sitting right. We’ve completed more than 38,000 chimney inspections and cleanings across the South Sound, and every single one of those jobs had a written scope, a written price, and a written warranty delivered before the first tool came out of the truck. No exceptions. No “call for a quote.” No surprises when the technician is already standing in your living room.
What’s Covered
- Workmanship that holds up. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every repair, every sweep, and every installation we perform in Tacoma, from a chimney cap replacement in North End to a full liner rebuild in Lakewood. If our work fails because of how we did it, we return and fix it at no charge.
- Parts installed correctly. We source materials through Haven’s buying network from DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, and Copperfield. These aren’t mystery brands from a jobber’s closeout bin. They’re the same flue liners, crown coatings, and caps we specify on commercial jobs, and we install them to manufacturer guidelines. If a part fails because of our installation, that’s on us.
- Your home left as we found it. Chimney work is dirty by nature. Soot, creosote chips, masonry dust. We lay drop cloths, run HEPA vacuums, and walk the job with you before we pack up. If we missed a spot, we come back and clean it. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires the photo record, but it also requires that we leave no trace except a chimney that works.
- On-time arrival with a name attached. You’ll know who’s coming. We assign a named technician to your job, run full background checks, and uniform our crews. You get a text when they’re on the way, not a four-hour window that stretches into evening. In Tacoma’s traffic patterns, especially crossing the Narrows or navigating the I-5 corridor during rush, that communication matters.
- Honest pricing with no bait-and-switch. The price we write down is the price you pay. Haven Standard Clause 1, H.A.V.E.N. “Have it in writing,” exists because we’ve all heard the stories: a low opener, then the upsell once the technician is inside. We don’t do that. Our written scope lists exactly what we’re doing, what materials we’re using, and what the total is. If we find something unexpected during the camera inspection, we show you the photo, explain what it means, and write a new scope if you want the additional work. You approve it. Nothing happens without your signature.
Our Satisfaction Promise

If something about our work doesn’t feel right, call us. Corrine Halstead, Owner at Emberly Chimney Cleaners Tacoma, answers those calls personally when she’s on deck, and our live phone support runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Here’s what happens: we schedule a return visit at no charge, review the original photo record and your new concern, and determine whether it’s a workmanship issue, a materials issue, or a misunderstanding about what was scoped. If it’s our fault, we fix it. If it’s a materials defect, we handle the manufacturer warranty claim and coordinate the replacement. If we missed something in communication, we explain it again, with the photos in front of us, until you’re clear on what you have and why.
The 365-Day Done Right Promise isn’t a refund policy. It’s a relationship policy. We’ve been in Tacoma since 2009, and we plan to be here when your chimney needs its next sweep. A homeowner in Proctor or on the Tacoma Narrows waterfront who feels burned isn’t going to call us back, and they aren’t going to tell their neighbor. We’d rather eat the cost of a callback than eat the cost of a reputation we spent fifteen years building. That’s the math.
Before
AfterLicensed & Insured Backing
A guarantee is only as solid as the business behind it. We’re licensed and insured, with our license information displayed on every page of our site and available before we step onto your property. That paperwork isn’t a formality. It’s what separates a legitimate chimney contractor from a guy with a brush and a ladder.
Here’s what licensing means for you: we’ve demonstrated to Washington State that we understand the mechanical code, the fire safety requirements, and the proper clearances for solid-fuel appliances. We’ve passed the inspections and maintained the continuing education. Insurance means that if the unlikely happens, if a tool drops through a roof or a ladder scratches siding, there’s a policy that covers it, not a shrug and a suggestion that you file a homeowner’s claim.
Chimney work involves real hazards. Class III creosote, the glazed, tar-like buildup we see in Tacoma’s older masonry chimneys after wet winters, is genuinely flammable. A compromised flue liner can leak carbon monoxide into living spaces. Spalling brick and deteriorated mortar let water into wall cavities. These aren’t cosmetic issues, and they shouldn’t be handled by someone who’s guessing. Our licensing and insurance are the foundation that lets us stand behind our 365-Day Done Right Promise with confidence. When we say we’ll make it right, we have the credentials, the capital, and the intention to follow through.
How We Document Every Job

Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a documented photo record on every visit. Here’s what that looks like in practice. Before we start, we photograph the exterior: crown condition, cap fit, flashing integrity, any spalling or efflorescence on the brick. Inside, we run a camera scan per NFPA 211 Level 2 standards, recording the flue liner surface, the smoke chamber profile, and the damper operation. After cleaning or repair, we photograph the completed work. You receive these images, typically within 24 hours, with annotations explaining what you’re looking at. If we recommended a liner replacement, you’ll see the crack or corrosion that prompted it. If your crown needs sealing, you’ll see the hairline fractures and the water pooling that confirms it. This documentation belongs to you. It’s evidence of what we found, what we did, and what you paid for.
Free Second Opinion
If another chimney company in Tacoma has given you a written estimate that feels high, vague, or alarming, bring it to us. We’ll review their scope against what our camera inspection shows, line by line. We don’t trash competitors. We explain what we see, what we don’t see, and whether the recommended work matches the actual condition of your chimney. Sometimes it does, and we’ll tell you that too. Our only agenda is that you have accurate information before you spend money. The second opinion is free because we believe informed homeowners make better decisions, and better decisions lead to safer chimneys.
What We Ask of You

A guarantee works both ways. We ask that you operate the appliance according to manufacturer guidelines, burn only seasoned hardwood when possible, and schedule routine maintenance. Tacoma’s marine climate, with its wet winters and occasional freeze-thaw cycles, accelerates masonry deterioration and creosote accumulation. An annual NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection, which includes the camera scan and photo record, catches problems before they become emergencies. If we’ve done repair work, we ask that you call us at the first sign of trouble: smoke spillage, odd odors, or a damper that won’t seat properly. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers defects in our work, not damage from deferred maintenance or changes in how you use the system. We’re straightforward about that because there’s no value in a guarantee that’s really a dispute waiting to happen.
FAQ
One full year from the date of service. If our workmanship fails within that window, we return and correct it at no charge. Call (253) 447-5982 and we’ll schedule the callback.
It covers our installation of parts and materials. Manufacturer defects in the materials themselves are handled through the manufacturer’s warranty, which we facilitate. If we installed it wrong, that’s our fix. If the part was bad from the factory, we’ll manage the replacement and reinstall at no labor charge.
Call us. We photograph our cleanup as part of the Clause 4 photo record, but if we missed soot tracking or debris in the firebox, we’ll return the same day or next morning to correct it. This is rare, but when it happens, we don’t debate it.
Always. Haven Standard Clause 1 requires it. You’ll have the scope, the price, and the warranty terms in writing before anyone picks up a tool. No verbal estimates. No “it’ll probably be around” numbers. If you want to think it over, take the paper and call us when you’re ready.
A written scope of work, a written final invoice matching the quoted price, a written warranty statement, and a digital photo record with annotated images of your chimney’s condition before and after service. These documents are yours to keep for insurance, real estate disclosure, or your own records.
On every visit. NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection with camera scan and photo documentation is standard, not an upsell. We started this practice in 2009, and it became the model for Haven Standard Clause 4. You can’t make an informed decision about your chimney without seeing what the flue actually looks like.
Bring us their written estimate for a free second opinion. We’ll camera-inspect the area in question and tell you whether their recommendation matches what we see. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn’t. Either way, you’ll have two data points and a set of photos you can examine yourself.
